The combination of the Koru and Mangōpare motifs help tell a story of continuous growth found in knowledge that empowers a person through their life. Based on the unfurling shoot of a fern, the Koru represents new life, growth, strength and harmony and its circular shape symbolises eternal movement. Mangōpare, the hammerhead shark, is a symbol of strength, courage and power. A whao worn around the womans neck illustrates the practical tools we need to apply this knowledge.
